At the start of my career, I had one simple programming goal: GET. IT. TO. WORK. But over time, I realized that how the code is written matters just as much as whether it works. 

Despite years of using free and open source geospatial software, contributing has always felt out of reach. After last week's FOSS4Ge, that changed for me.
